Fine artists require paper with properties to suit their particular style or mood. Two Rivers Paper Co has a wide range of such papers, which have the added advantages of hand made paper, some of which are listed above.
The Two Rivers paper mill, Pitt Mill, is based in a 400 year old building in North Somerset. Much of the equipment was built many years ago. The water wheel is 100 years ago, and powers the rag-breaking machine using water flowing off the nearby Exmoor. The natural purity of this water also helps the naturalness of the ingredients.
Once rags have been crushed down to the original fibres they are sloshed around with water, then gently drained through a seive, which quickly dries to a mat of fibres. These are pressed between woollen blankets, and when squeezed dry enough the sheets are hung up to air-dry in the mill's loft.
