A book bound in the Brunel Style
My understanding is that an album is a book with plain pages suitable for items to be stuck into it. This requires a different methid of binding from normal books wich have equal thickness of pages throughout.
The best way of overcoming srain on the hinges ~ and a wedge shaped book ~ is to bind extra 'non-pages' into the hinge of the book. This is done in such a way as to allow for the extra thickness of the photographs or embellishments attached to the pages. Additionally the pages have to be thick enough to support everything ~ and large enough to take a selection of the likely items.
The book I describe here ~ I have given it the name of Brunel for no reason other than the different books I describe on this site all have the names of people who were notable discoverers ~ explorers ~ or inventors ~ provides possible solutions that demonstrate ways of overcoming the problems of making an album.
The Brunel Book is in the horizontal ~ landscape ~ format ~ and it has 32 leaves of about A5 size. It can easily be adapted to be any other size ~ shape ~ or extent. If there any departures from the items specified and photographed here then the book needs to be called in the Brunel Style. If there are too many innovations then it would be better to give it another name!

Anyone with a knowledge of bookcraft will be able to make a Brunel Book by studying the photographs on this page. Any craft minded person will be able to follow the short instructions which will be available [soon].
