Handmade diary book ~ Darwin Discovery Project

This Discovery Book project is under development and it is unlikely to be explained in useful detail until the 2022 diary is ready for publication. It is planned to be an easily made ~ no glue ~ no knife ~ bookcraft project. The diary itself will be availabe in pdf form ~ suitable for home printers ~ or as ready printed sheets.

The page layout will be an A6 page-a-day format with a blank page every week ~ opposite Monday. This means that each day will occupy the same position on the spread. It does make for extra bulk ~ the binding method chosen allows for four-weekly sections to be added and removed as required. This will require a small amount of simple stitching. For extra neatness sharp-knife will be required ~ it is not essential.

Another approach allows for the ink colour to be other than staartling full black. A deep grey is more restful on the eyes ~ whilst remaining perfectly legible. A tint of black also permits written entries in the more delicate handwritings to stand out against the printed rules and text. I believe that there are some legibility conditions that welcome this reduced contrast. To avail of this the printer must be able to print tones of grey rather than the binary black and white.
