The book we describe on these pages is an A6 book with an open back structure that makes for easy ~ lie flat ~ opening. The paper used is heavyweight ~ 160gsm ~ all media acid-free recycled cartridge. There are 96 leaves making 192 pages in all.
The full width of every page is available ~ with no appreciable gutter. The number of pages can be decreased or increased ~ an unusual, possibly unique, feature of this busybusydotco binding. Changing the number of leaves from this specification is most easily undertaken whilst making the book, but it can also be performed on the finished book ~ without affecting the appearance of the book.
The kits require assembly ~ by sewing ~ with a small amount of gluing. Some kits come with most of the preparation already done ~ others need rather more homework, and slightly higher skill or experience levels. All come complete with illustrated instructions. Experienced craftworkers will be able to make books to their own design from the information available on-line here. The simplicity of the design means that the techniques required to make Arkwright style books are very basic. The contents list provides links to more infomation on this.
Biographical notes on Sir Richard Arkwright are also available [113026]. There is no relationship between the contents of the kit and the inventions of Sir Richard Arkwright ~ his name is being used as a label ~ with no other relevance. Compare ~ 'Mondeo' ~ 'Cortina' ~ 'XK120' ~ 'BigMac' ~ 'Range Rover' ~ 'Barbi Doll' ~ and many other names.
