Two Rivers Paper Mill

Situated in Somerset, England, Pitt Mill uses fresh clean water from Exmoor as one of the ingredients in the making of fine art papers. The other requirements are a good supply of clean white cotton rags, and a lot of hand powered labour and specialist expertise.

This papermill is rather special in a number of ways, and that is why I am keen to offer some notes on it. The two or three people plying their trade are amongst the few remaining papermakers in this country. Their mill is 400 years old, with most of the mechanical power required generated by an overshot water wheel. It is possibly the only such working mill in Europe.
