The label 'Linnaeus' has been given to the book which fits the following description.
The Linnaeus Book is an open backed loop-bound booklet made of handmade heavyweight artists' watercolour papers from the Two Rivers Mill in Somerset, UK. It is ~ in effect ~ a sampler of one of the products from that mill. The name Linnaeus is simply an identifier for this particular book and has no relation to the work of Carl Linneous.
The paper from which the book is prepared is made from 20"x16" sheets which are cut down to produce a book of size 8" wide by 5" high. Some of the sheets edges retain the characteristic rough ~ deckle ~ edge of handmadepaper. Other edges have been cut to emulate the same broken edge effect [121970]. The covers are randomly infused with a mixture of cornflower, larkspur and marigold petals ~ which are inserted into the mix during manufacture.
The Linnaeus Book consists of sixteen sides of 140lb (315gsm) acid-free ~ cotton rag ~ paper which has been both tub and surface sized.
