Replacing cutting points for the Stanley Craft Knife

18mm retractable blade

Hold the knife well over the work surface ~ in case you drop a small item. For safety make sure the blade is fully retracted. The yellow end of the knife has to be pulled away from the main section. This is very difficult ~ I have some smaller cheaper knives for which the ends seem to come off at the slightest tweak.

Pulling off the blunt end of the knife
A firm grip with two hands is required ~
removing the end cap of the knife<
Pull away the blunt end of the knife
Pull away the blunt end of the knife ~ the slot is almost hidden
Pull away the blunt end of the knife
Feed one section of the blade-end into the slot
Pull away the blunt end of the knife
Adjust the length of blade ~
to leave just one notch visible between the end and handle
Pull away the blunt end of the knife
Break the blade by bending ~ it needs some strength ~
the broken piece will 'snapoff' and should fall out
Pull away the blunt end of the knife
Put the used blade into a sharps container [125630]~
I use a small Weston box with an added label [127119]

This process looks easy in the pictures but some knife blades do not have huge 'perforation' indents and breaking the blade is difficult. I sometime use a pair of pliers ~ and safety spectacles.

I shall provide a separate llinkfor the final process of extracting the used piece of blade
