Amelia Earhart ~ 1897-1939

Some biographical notes

Amelia Earheart was an aviatrix at a time when lady-fliers were unheard of. She learned to fly in her twenties and in 1932 became the first woman to fly ~ solo ~ non-stop ~across the Atlantic Ocean. She left Newfoundland and planned to reach Paris ~ but instead landednear Derry in NorthernIreland.

After several other flying feats ~ long distance solo flights and copetitive races ~ she later made an attempt to be the first femail to circumnaviagte the Earth. Unfortunately as she was nearing her goal the aeroplane disappeared in the Pacific Ocean. The cause is not known ~ andstill gives rise to theory and speculation.
