Grab ~ a property of adhesives

The opposite of Slip

One property of adhesives is grab. If you have used contact adhesive you will know that the two prepared surfaces will stick together firmly and instantly. There is immediate grab. Another well known example is the usual domestic sticky tape. It will gently stick to itself on the roll ~ it can be removed from glass and plastic ~ once it touches paper it is stuck for ever.

These are extreme cases of aggressive grab. Some tapes and films are listed as having this property. Spray glues come in two varieties ~ slow grabbing and immediate grabbing.

Bookcrafters rarely use aggressibly grabby adhesives. They tend to choose adhesives which have grab-properties that suit their varying needs. When working a leather backing around cords a complete lack of grab is desireable ~ slip [103547].

For me part of the definitions of glue and paste are simplied to grabby and slippy. For some jobs I use a special blend which is a balanced mix of PVA [113709] and Methcell [113872] .
